Michelle has been in practice at Healing Arts Indy since 2006, having completed a 500 hour certificate program in therapeutic massage at IUPUI. She is also licensed by the State of Indiana. Her initial training included instruction in Swedish massage, prenatal massage, deep tissue, sports and chair massage, as well as introductions to a number of other bodywork modalities. Michelle has pursued further education in deep tissue techniques, Thai massage, and myoskeletal alignment techniques. In addition to formal training, there’s often a bodywork book on her bedside table or traveling with her in the car, so she can increase her knowledge of the body and further her capacity to work successfully with clients. Michelle believes touch is an essential need and that it has the potential to create positive and lasting change, physically, mentally and emotionally.
The ideal relationship Michelle sees between clients and herself is collaborative- meaning the person receiving massage is actively engaged in the process and willing to communicate about his/her experience. She has seen clients improve their health and well-being significantly through this process and the increased self-awareness that bodywork facilitates. And this relationship brings the greatest reward for Michelle; it motivates her to extend herself, stay curious and learn more.
As a bodyworker, Michelle tries to cultivate a sense of openness to each person’s experience and what that might have to teach her. The complexities of the body and human experience are myriad, and she’s excited by the “aha” moments that come from the exploration. Michelle loves her work because people feel better at the end of a session with her than they did before. Over the longer term, this translates into Michelle’s clients feeling and functioning better on a day-to-day basis, often experiencing benefits that far outlast the session.
